Water for generation

Water for generation

Queensland continues to experience water shortages throughout the state, and you may be surprised to learn that it takes an enormous amount of water to generate electricity.

Coal-fired power stations can consume 16 megalitres* of water a day to generate electricity. That is the equivalent of 16 Olympic sized pools.

Investing in environmentally friendly electricity generation technologies such as wind, hydro and solar can help ease our water crisis because these methods don’t consume any water at all in the electricity generation process.

You can help save our precious water by making simple changes to reduce your electricity use or by purchasing Clean Energy.
